Tanaw: The Repeat Concert – The Queens of OPM Rock Unite

Back in the days when cassette tapes and CDs were in, I grew up listening on my Walkman and Discman to songs from OPM bands in the 90s until the year 2000, during my college days and the early days of my working life. The bands I listened to were Barbie's Cradle, Moonstar88, Mojofly, Session Road, and Imago.

Fast forward to the year 2025, I had the opportunity to watch and cover "Tanaw: The Repeat Concert," which was held on February 9, 2025, at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre.

The sold-out concert brought together six iconic female rock artists, including Acel Bisa, Aia de Leon, Hannah Romawac, Kitchie Nadal, Barbie Almalbis, and Lougee Basabas.

This is my first time watching a show at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre, and I would like to thank GNN Productions for inviting me and providing a media pass.

The four-hour concert started at 8 PM with a solo set for each artist and ended with a group performance as Tanaw Collective.

AIA DE LEON

The first artist to perform was Aia de Leon, the former vocalist of Imago. She started the show with a bang, performing classic hits including “Idlip,” “Tao Lang,” “Taralets,” “Sundo,” “Taning,” and “Akap.”

HANNAH ROMAWAC

It was followed by another amazing set, making the fans sing along when Hannah performed classic Session Road hits including “Sana Naman,” “Kailan,” “Suntok Sa Buwan,” “Leaving You,” and “Cool Off.”

ACEL BISA

With her angelic voice, Acel, the first vocalist of Moonstar88, performed songs from her previous band, including "Ang Pag-Ibig kong ito" and "Sulat."

Acel also performed a cover of Jewel's "You Were Meant for Me," her original song "Hello to Heaven," and lastly, the iconic song "Torete."

I was lucky to have watched Acel again, as she will be migrating to the Netherlands later this February with her family.

Just to share, I started watching Moonstar88 gigs back in 2002 or 2003 when I was in college, and I am happy that I watched Acel perform live again.

LOUGEE BASABAS with MOJOFLY and Princess Ybanez

Excited when Lougee showed up onstage, as I have been a fan since she became the vocalist of Mojofly. I also remember attending one of their gigs back in early 2006.

Together with Mojofly, Lougee performed their chart-topping songs, including “Minamalas,” “Tumatakbo,” “Mula Noon,” “Mamahalin Mo Ba Ako,” “Close to the End,” and “Mata.”

She also performed with her daughter while her son played the drums with Ali, which was also a highlight of the night.

KITCHIE NADAL

Returning from Spain is the iconic Kitchie Nadal, who is also the first vocalist of Mojofly. I can remember watching her once at a gig with Sponge Cola in the mid-2000s in Laguna.

I got goosebumps when she performed her original songs “Fire,” “Same Ground,” “Huwag na Huwag Mong Sasabihin,” and “Bulong.”

BARBIE ALMALBIS

The last set of the solo performance is from another music icon in the Philippines, Barbie Almalbis. She is also the frontwoman of the bands Hungry Young Poets and Barbie's Cradle, which gained popularity in the 1990s and 2000s.

Barbie performed "Tabing Ilog," "Ayoko ng Torpe," "Just a Smile," "Homeostasis," and a song from her new album, "Not That Girl."

She also showcased her guitar skills, performing Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.”

Lastly, everyone returned to the stage to perform as a group (Tanaw Collective). They performed Acel’s song “Buhangin,” a cover of “Zombie” by The Cranberries, “Talinghaga,” and their new single, “Landslide.”

Overall, it was a surreal and nostalgic experience, and I didn’t notice that the show ended at around 12:30 AM. I hope there will be a part three soon, as I will never tire of watching them perform.

I also received this as a memento, as I had some items signed by the members.

Twisted Minds and Team Falcons Joins MPL Philippines

This is my first assignment for my job as the official photographer for MPL Philippines Season 15.

I am very thankful that people from Moonton decided to get me again to work for them. The last time was during the MPL Philippines Season 12 in 2023.

Today's work is the coverage of the press conference with selected media outlets and also to officially welcome the two new teams joining the MPL Philippines league, Twisted Minds and Team Falcons.

Both teams have replaced Blacklist International and RSG Philippines who left the league and sold their slots.

Twisted Minds which is a Saudi Arabia based organization is very excited to join the league. Ibrahim Bin Jibreen, who is the founder and CEO of Twisted Minds is present in the venue to answer the questions from the media.

Meanwhile, Grant Rousseau, who is the Global Director for E-Sports for Team Falcon, also had the same thoughts and mentioned that the Philippines is the strongest region in MLBB and they are excited to compete.

It is also nice to see friends from the media who attended the event.

The venue for today's is event is at Chef Jessie in Makati. Amazing and delicious food and the staff are very accomodating and helpful.

Tanaw: The Repeat Concert Presscon

Back in the '90s, I collected cassette tapes and listened to OPM music on my classic Aiwa and Sony Walkmans. Then I started following Moonstar88, a local band known for their hit song "Torete."

When I was in college and had a little money from my allowance, I was able to attend the band's mall tours and listener meetups. I think this is when I really got into music, as I also started listening to other bands, including Barbie's Cradle, Mojofly, Session Road, Imago, and more.

Fast forward to the current year, the women from iconic 90s bands reunite for another event called "Tanaw: The Repeat Concert," happening on February 9, 2025, at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.

This is the second time Acel Bisa (former Moonstar88 vocalist), Aia de Leon (former Imago vocalist), Lougee Basabas (Mojofly), Kitchie Nadal (former Mojofly vocalist), Hannah Romawac (Session Road), and Barbie Almalbis (Barbie's Cradle) will be performing together; they are now known as "Tanaw Collectives."

Last January 22, I was invited as part of the media to attend the press conference for the "Tanaw: The Repeat Concert" show, held at The Grand Bar & Lounge in Newport Grand Wing, Pasay City.

Unfortunately, Kitchie is not present at the press conference as she is still in Spain and will fly to Manila in a week.

The six iconic singer-songwriter has officially launched 'Tanaw Collective,' which is celebrates the power of women-led collaborations.

The Tanaw Collective members shared their thoughts about the upcoming reunion concert, how the group started, and also the current artist that they want to collaborate with.

It was also shared on how recording their upcoming single 'Landslide' was recorded at Barbie's house. The song will be available in all digital platforms on January 31.

After the press conference, Tanaw Collective performed two songs (including Landlside). The surprise performance is also a preview on what to experience in the Tanaw: The Repeat Concert, happening on February 9, 2025.

After the press conference, I met them and had some of my items signed. I am super happy and starstruck to see them all together. I grew up listening to their songs, buying their albums, and attending their gigs.

Meeting the Tanaw Collective members altogether is surreal and I am very thankful for this opportunity.

Big thanks to Celine and Sir Ian of GNN Productions for inviting me to this event.
